General Discussion
I was thinking of Gail this morning as I do from time to time. Memories of her and our time together always bring a smile to my face. She and I worked at U S WEST and I was so shocked when I heard of her 2021 passing just last year.
As background, I was hired as a business person into the highly intelligent and educated group that she was an integral part of - Human Factors Engineering. I sat next to Gail. We all looked up to her knowledge, experience and practical nature. We also knew we were in for some fun during anything we worked on with her.
Initially, I was so intimidated by the team and the technical and scientific nature of the job; I knew the business and a bit of statistics, but spent most of my time wondering why I was hired. The qualities you describe are the ones I saw in Gail every day. She knew my value better than I did and became my supporter from Day 1. We enjoyed working together and shared a love of cooking and reading that carried us into a friendship.
Of course, as her family and close friends, you perfectly describe the Gail I knew. Your openness, warmth and memories have reminded me of my friend and mentor and have filled in a few blanks for me. Thank you for that.
My condolences for everything that you and Gail went through at the end of her life. I’m so sorry this terrible disease struck her and you. She accomplished a lot in her few years - love, family, important work, fun and laughter. I will always remember Gail fondly. She was a very special person.
